What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? I'm proof of that the past few weeks. I don't know what I was thinking trying to train for a triathlon while recovering from having my fourth baby and running a magazine. Am I insane? Even more insane, I'm utilizing one of the top triathletes in the state as my trainer.

I met Wes Johnson a few weeks ago...at a bakery. I thought it was my first test of will power. It turned out, he just wanted to have access to the free wi-fi to show me the online training tool he set me up to use. This tool is where he inputs my training schedule and where (gulp) I log what I actually did that day.

Wes has been doing triathlons for a long time. He is part of a group of experts who run WinterTriCamps.com and teaches swimming at the University of Utah. Since the last coach I had was yelling, cranky curmudgeon field hockey coach, Wes’s charming smile and easy-going nature came as a surprise. I have been doing his workouts he posts online and emails me…I’m thinking his smile is more of a just-you-wait-and-see-what-kind-of-pain-I’ll-put-you-through kind of grin than I’m-the-nicest-guy-you’ll-ever-meet.

My sore shoulders from attending his masters swim class this morning after only 5 hours of sleep are a testament to his training prowess. Guess I am in for the long haul. Did I mention, my pants are looser, I can see muscles in my arms and I feel better than I have in a long time? Want to train for the Echo Lake Triathlon with me? There’s still time.
