Isn't it the best wake-up call to see your child doing or saying something less-than-admirable and then you stop and realize they learned it from you?  I imagined motherhood to be so different than how it actually is (didn't we all?).  I really believed that my kids would learn honesty and other valuable virtues in a way like this:One day I wake up and with my mother's intuition I sense it is now the moment to have the "honesty" lesson.  "Children, gather round," I say (in a tender voice just barely above a whisper), and all of my fully-dressed, clean, well-mannered children rus ...

Last night I attended a snooty, fancy event.  I had been really excited but was quickly disappointed after about an hour of standing around at the event while loud music blasted, cheap cookies sat (looking ever-less interesting) and a high-fashion crowd flitted about the room and the open bar.  I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was that was so disappointing about the event for me until I thought about it in comparison to the Wasatch Woman's upcoming Wasatch Woman of the Year event.Last night's extravaganza lacked SOUL.  It was a superficial, floozy, agenda-ridden evening ...

Oy veh.  I feel like I've got "Bloggers Block" this holiday break... well, actually all of December.  Whenever I sit down to blog, I get really stumped at figuring out what to write about.  All the ideas I planned out prior seem dumb and difficult to write about once I get to sitting down and writing.  This leads me to conclude that - truly - you can't do it all.  Yes, I know - how cliche, but it really is true.  About a month ago I thought my ability to not "do everything" I wanted to do was merely a scheduling and time management issue.  However, as I'm loo ...

For the past 14+ months I've spent much of my time building an online store.  My vision for the store was for it to become a heavy competitor to online stores like Costco.com, Target.com and Etsy.com.  I knew I was dreaming big, but I really felt the dream was possible.  I slaved over my store.  My husband would tease me that I was only earning pennies for my efforts, but even that became a joke later on as keeping my store open became more of a charity for the vendors I was working with than anything else.  The vision was still there and it still was possible but I ha ...
