Kelly — mother of three, devoted wife, business owner and the original "startup princess" — sat down with me to talk about her life, her business and her commitment to live a life that fulfills the purpose she feels God has given her.
"I'm a really spiritual person," she shared, "So I'm really connected to my spirit-purpose. I feel that God has opened up a path for me in life that reveals itself day by day."
That "day by day" is currently her business, Startup Princess, where she uses her passion, insight and expertise to mentor and coach female entrepreneurs. Kelly believes the center of her purpose is to empower women and to help them fulfill their own life's mission. She does this every day as a teacher, a friend and a strong believer that everyone has a purpose in life — whether it shows up as running today's business meeting or coordinating tomorrow's play date.
"As I've come to understand my own purpose, the truth reveals itself when I'm feeling happiest and have the most passion for life. If I'm not feeling that way, then something isn't in alignment. Right now, it definitely looks like Startup Princess is a part of that. But five years ago it was my master's degree. Before that, it was serving orphans in Bulgaria. If you look at the core of my purpose, it's always been about inspiring and motivating others."
Keeping herself inspired and motivated is also a priority. Kelly is a proponent of vision boards — taking tangible representations (whether it be ruby slippers, wands, photos or words) of goals, hopes and dreams, and posting them on an actual bull

tin board so she can be reminded of her higher purpose every time she sees it. Kelly's eyes lit up as she shared what is currently on her vision board.
"Right now, love is a strong theme. Learning to love — and listen," she said with a smile. "I have pictures that represent bonding with my kids, listening to other women, writing and being fit and fabulous."
It was easy for me to spot how Kelly is manifesting the items on her vision board. She's currently preparing to homeschool her children — not because she has complaints about the school system in Utah, but because she sees time with her kids (who are ages 3, 5 and 9) as a valuable and finite commodity.
Kelly's also working on a book about God-centered entrepreneurship. "It's about listening to God on a daily basis, not just the origination of the idea. A lot of entrepreneurs, they get the idea and it's like, 'Oh, I'm so inspired, I think God really wants me to do this!' but then they don't stay connected, so they don't realize that God really wants to give them steps one through 5 million — not just the first idea."
Kelly has learned, however, that trusting those messages can be challenging. "Last week there was an event I was supposed to attend, and I just didn't want to go there," she tells me, with a big sigh. "I didn't want to get a babysitter. I didn't want to drive there. I was tired. But I kept feeling this nudging, 'go, go, go, go.' Finally I went and the event was okay, but when I left I ran into someone I hadn't seen in five years. She's a new entrepreneur who needs me and I was so excited to see her and learn about her new business. It was just like, 'I told you so.'" Kelly said, laughing.
Kelly seeks out different ways to make sure she doesn't miss out on those nudging messages. In addition to her vision board, she also believes in meditation and using journal writing as a tool to hash out questions, weigh pros and cons, and sort out the messy barrage of thoughts that often war within our minds.
It would be easy to listen to Kelly's exuberant confidence in her higher purpose or to line up her accomplishments (caring for orphans and racing in triathlons!) and feel intimidated, but her presence — while very energized — is full of humility.
"I like to put myself together and present myself well, but I know that at home there are weeds in the beds and there's weeds in my life," she admitted. "There's stuff that I'm trying to pull out and refine. I hope that I can convey love in what I do. Something I'm always thinking about is how can I help this person I'm working with — whether it be my 9-year-old son and we need to compromise about his messy room, or a business associate that I need to give honest feedback about something they need to change. I try to show understanding that everyone's a work in progress and I'm a work in progress, so please forgive me of my errors."
Her generous spirit toward those she serves and her faith that everyone has a unique purpose is the pixie dust she sprinkles on those wands she likes to hand out.
,br> "As a little girl, I never would have woken up one day and thought I'd be doing what I'm doing. I love being a teacher and being able to serve. I'm only one of thousands of strong, powerful women out there who are seeking a way to be true to that higher purpose as a mother, a wife and through my business."
At the end of our time together, Kelly presented me with a wand of my own; to remind me that I am a princess (even in my jeans and flip-flops) and all the magic I need in my life is already present within the woman I am.
